Cabernet Sauvignon

Fruit sourced from Lake County and Lodi.

Garnet in color. Big ‘ole nose of blackberry pie, Asian spice, ripe red currant & vanilla. Background notes of mint and saddle leather. Ripe, full-bodied flavors of blackberry, red currant & red cherry. Finishes real long with plum, fine tannins, baker’s chocolate & a perfect measure of acidity.

  • Dark ruby in color. Complex nose brimming with brambly blackberry, rhubarb pie, plum, orange peel and marjoram. Secondary notes of savory, ripe red berry, and cigar box. Ripe, medium to full-bodied flavors of cassis, red raspberry and plum. Finishes long with bright notes of red fruits, framed up nicely with lingering plum and a hint of tobacco.

Golden straw in color. Expressive, floral nose full of ripe pear, citrus peel, & golden apple. Lovely background hints of key lime pie, floral peach and vanilla. Bold flavors of ripe pear, quince & key lime pie. Finishes long and lush with mouthwatering acidity and a touch of toasty oak.

  • Golden straw in color. Nose full of ripe pear and peach, floral jasmine, and hints of vanilla and toast. Delicious mouthful of pear and liquid minerals. Finishes long and fat with notes of pineapple and citrus peel.

Sauvignon Blanc

The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is largely from the Stewart Ranch Vineyard, with its toes in the estuary south of the city of Napa. It is a late developing site and its tropical flavors, crisp acidity and cool climate chemistry add zip to the lovely riper Windy Flats Clone 1 grapefruit character. 2023 had plenty of rain, saturated soil profiles and nice warm roller coaster temperatures without ever getting hot. The fruit was harvested on September 7, 15 and 21. Alba Fria, one of the new “sleeping beauty” yeasts was used on many of the lots that fermented in stainless steel tanks. After dryness, the wine was racked to neutral oak, acacia, and stainless-steel barrels to rest until bottling in January after a brief fining and settling.

The 2023 Rosé of Pinot Noir offers aromas of kiwi, guava and orange blossom. The palate is crisp and dry, with bright citrus and strawberry flavors that lead to a clean and refreshing finish.

  • The charm of a lovely dry Rosé provides wine drinkers with a wonderful excuse to sit outside and enjoy the tradition of Rosé on the terrace or balcony. Knittle Vineyard is located on a nice stony terrace with a gentle slope to the east. The weather in 2023 was enough to give all of us whiplash! Another drought year, then spring frosts, a cool summer, and in mid-August the first of 2 hot spells with intermittent rain. We were pleased to have brought in the Pinot Noir on August 19, at 20.9 Brix on a nice foggy morning. The Pinot Noir was whole cluster pressed together and the press was stopped at 1.2 Bar when the color in the juice began to increase. The carefully settled juice was fermented with Actiflore Rose yeast and cold fermented in a stainless tank.

The 2023 Chardonnay was made from a selection of Chardonnay vineyards that Doug Hill has close connections with or manages himself. Due to the focus and flexibility of Doug’s team, we were able to harvest excellent Chardonnay from multiple sites to secure the layered expression our Napa Valley Chardonnay deserves. Made with no malolactic influence and only light oak, this crisp and fruity Chardonnay will please people looking for a wine that enhances food and holds its own out on the patio.

  • Winemaker Alison Doran’s tasting notes: The 2023 Chardonnay has a beautiful floral nose showing the versatility of the Chardonnay grape. Aromas of lemon blossom, ripe golden apple, and caramel circle the glass. On the palate, the wine shows excellent intensity and balance, with flavors of apple, coconut and toasted almond flavors. The underlying creamy texture gives the wine luscious appeal, even though it has very little oak influence and no malolactic fermentation.

Vineyard Notes: Stewart Ranch in Napa Carneros is a cool climate site, windy from immediate proximity to the San Pablo Bay. Pommard and 115 Clone Pinot Noir make up the finished wine. Plenty of winter rain, late bud break and long cool summer made for lovely growing conditions and late harvest. The Pommard was harvested 9/21, and the 115 was harvested 9/25.

  • Winemaker Notes: Aged in 40% new French oak barrels for 11 months. Garnet in color. Rich, expressive nose of ripe plum, orange peel, sassafras tea and blackberry pie. Background notes of raspberry, mint and spice box. Velvety mouthful of ripe red berries & plum. A bit of toasty oak lingers on a long, lean finish. 14.3% alc. 56 cases made.

Fruit sourced from Napa Valley 

Vineyard Notes:  Windy Flats Vineyard sits just over the mountain range east of Napa where the Wooden Valley begins. Plenty of sunlight perfect for ripening Zinfandel. The prevalent winter rains, late bud break and long, cool summer made for some handwringing as the season dragged on. Harvested perfectly ripe on 10/13.

  • Winemaker Notes: Aged in 22% new Hungarian oak barrels for 11 months. While 85% Zinfandel, there is also 15% Petite Sirah from the same vineyard which added some verve and back bone to the finished wine. Dark red berry in color. Bright aromas of ripe red cherry, blueberry and currant. Background hints of cassis and garrigue. Bold flavors of briary blackberry, currant and cassis. Nicely framed with a touch of spicy oak and long finish of supple tannins. 14.7% alc. 56 cases made.
